The Shelby Township Fine Art Society celebrates the installation of its 30th show at Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea in Shelby Township.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP – The Shelby Township Fine Art Society celebrates the installation of its 30th art exhibit at Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea, 45629 Hayes Road.

The artwork will be on display until October 4. Many of the works will be available for purchase during the exhibition. Numerous paintings have been sold since the exhibitions at Sweetwaters began in June 2019.

The partnership was made possible by Dave Grimes, owner of Sweetwaters Cafe, as well as Sara Katsavrias and Patti and Pete Connors of the Shelby Township Fine Art Society.

Katsavrias, president of the Shelby Township Fine Art Society, said it has been a great team effort since 2019.

“It’s been a great partnership with the owner, Dave Grimes. Every two months, 20 new original pieces of art from one of our 64 members are hung for the public to see. It’s a win-win: Dave has artwork adorning his walls, and we have a place to display and sell our art. Stop by and maybe buy a piece for the perfect wall at home,” she said.

Grimes said he is proud of the relationship with the Shelby Township Fine Art Society.

“The beautiful art and wonderful artists have helped us create a creative atmosphere at Sweetwaters, which has been our goal since we opened five years ago. Our cafe feels like an art gallery in a coffee shop. We even unveil new artwork about every six weeks. We started with a mission to support the local art scene and have exceeded expectations on every level,” he said.

The motifs of some of the artworks on display include animals, nature and even patterns.

Patti Connor, the society’s program and workshop director, and her husband Pete help Katsavrias hang the artwork. The society was founded in 2000 with the goal of promoting, teaching and supporting visual arts through monthly meetings, workshops, exhibitions and performances.
