Bookstore closure and major book sales at John McIntire Library – WHIZ

Book sale

The Friends of the Library bookstore in the John McIntire Library has long been a place to buy books on a budget, but starting this Saturday it will be temporarily closed for a clearance sale.

The John McIntire Library will soon undergo a major renovation, which is expected to be completed in 2026. Until then, however, there will be some difficulties, such as the temporary closure of the bookstore.

“We will be removing all of the books and those books will be included in a sale that you will hear more about later. Instead, we plan to move to the upper floor next to the current genealogy department as we remodel the library. We will be a little more visible, but we will still offer the community the opportunity to purchase wonderful books at a really reasonable price,” said Sally Banfield, president of the Friends of the Library.

After the bookstore closes, there will be a big “$2 a bag” sale on August 24th, where you can fill a Riesbeck shopping bag with as many books as you want for $2.

“It will be our last one as the bookstore is closing, so it’s important that all the friends get out and come here to buy their books and get ready for summer. We will do this on August 24th from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. From 10:30 a.m. to noon it will be open to the Friends of the Library, so as a member of the Friends of the Library you have priority and can come for the sale. After that it will be open to the public until 2 p.m.,” said Beverly Bell, Vice President of the Friends of the Library.
