Nev Schulman is recovering from a bicycle accident in which he broke his neck. The “Catfish” host shared graphic photos of his injury on Instagram on August 10. In a lengthy caption, he revealed that he sustained the injury on Monday, August 5, after spending a “day of love” with his family on Sunday.

Nev Schulman says he broke his neck in two places

Schulman issued a medical trauma warning regarding his severe injury in his Instagram carousel post. His caption revealed that a truck had hit him while he was riding his bike. He was on his way to pick up his son from school but never arrived.

Despite breaking his neck in two places, Nev confirmed that he was “not paralysed”.

“I broke my neck. C5 and C6 to be exact. Stable fractures. I am not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are PEOPLE,” he wrote.

The first video (third slide) in Nev’s post shows him lying flat in a hospital bed wearing a neck brace. The fourth photo shows an x-ray of his neck bone. A fifth slide shows the back of Nev’s swollen neck with a vertical, stitched surgical incision that showed bruising.

Additional slides in Nev Schulman’s reveal show him standing up with the help of hospital staff and walking down the hallway unaided. In most of the shots of him, he is wearing a neck brace.

“I’m glad to be alive, hugging my family and hoping to make a full recovery. And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude. For the big and small things before the accident and for everything moving forward now,” added Nev Schulman.

Nev’s wife shares footage of him at home with their children

One of the photos Nev Schulman shared showed his wife flash a little smile while in the hospital bed next to him. Laura Perlongo and the “Catfish” presenter have three children together: seven-year-old Cleo, five-year-old Beau and two-year-old Cy.

On Sunday, Laura shared a secretly recorded video of Nev lying in bed with the children, captioning it: “He’s home.” Footage in Nev’s post showed that all three children also visited their father in hospital.

In a second Instagram Stories post, Cleo describes a homemade feel-good card and sings Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping,” which is all about “getting back up” after being “knocked down.”

As mentioned above, Nev Schulman described his family’s togetherness on Sunday in his revelation about the broken neck.

“I went fishing with my family on Sunday. It was amazing, my son’s idea. One of those days that just works. We found a free boat (thanks Captain Ben!) and caught all kinds of fish, most of which we threw back because they were too cute. Especially the puffer fish. It was magical. A day full of love and wonder, as only quiet days in nature with family can be,” Nev wrote in the caption of his carousel post. Monday was not such a day.

Schulman added that his accident gave family time “meaning.” “It’s true what they say: life can change in an instant.” he wrote.
