Hoppo Games and Gearbox Publishing have announced that a new survivor will be joining Risk Of Rain 2: In Search of the Storm. The new survivor is known simply as “The Seeker” and has mastered the art of soul manipulation, channeling mythical powers to deal tons of damage to anything in his path. We’ve got more details from the developers for you below, along with the latest trailer above, as we’re still waiting for a release date to be announced for this expansion.
Risk Of Rain 2: In Search of the Storm – The Seeker
She was sent to explore Petrichor V in search of paradise for her people. Instead, she quickly came across roots that contained a mystical golden power. Through these channels, she was able to communicate with a powerful, forgotten creature. Her connection grew, and with it her ability to unlock the secrets of soul manipulation. Now she can open gates that bring forth a new, unbridled power. With this power, she can deal incredible damage to nearby monsters, but uniquely, she can also unleash powerful healing powers to support her teammates. This combination of brawling and healing is at the core of what makes Seeker a survivalist. Players who learn to seamlessly switch between the two will be rewarded with one of the most versatile survivors to ever grace a drop pod.
Seeker’s special ability: Meditate
Today we’ll jump right into dessert and talk about Seeker’s special ability: Meditate. This ability tasks you with performing a timed sequence. If this sequence is successful, an explosion will be triggered a short distance from Seeker. Enemies within that range will take major damage and allies will be healed very well. If you’re playing with Seeker on your team, pay attention to when she starts channeling Meditate so you can rush in and take advantage of that much-needed healing. But wait, there’s more!! In addition to the explosion effect from using her Meditate ability, Seeker also gains a stack of Tranquility. When you collect a handful of Tranquility stacks, certain abilities become more effective. After completing your 7th stack, Seeker’s Meditate can even revive her fallen comrades. It’s okay, commando, those bison are the better of us all sometimes.
Seeker’s Primary Ability: Spirit Punch
Now let’s jump back and look at her main ability: Spirit Punch. This ability is actually a three-hit combo. Her first two punches fly forward quickly, piercing any monsters she hits. Every third punch explodes with increased damage instead. The Tranquility stacks from earlier are also useful here. With each stack, your boosted explosive attack becomes more effective. It’s useful to mentally plan your attacks so that the third punch can take out a large group of monsters. If you do this right, you’ll see why Seeker is one of the strongest AOE punchers out there.
Seeker’s Secondary Ability: Invisible Hand
Seeker’s secondary ability is Unseen Hand. Use it to unleash a giant ghostly hand from the ground that slows, knocks back, and drains health from anyone in its range. One of Seeker’s biggest drawbacks is its lack of long-range damage. You’ll often run into situations where a monster exceeds your reach with Spirit Punch. Unseen Hand can help a little with that. Its extremely long range means you can use it in a pinch to take out monsters from afar. But if your run isn’t going particularly well, you’ll probably still need to get close to your target before you can finish them off.
Seeker’s Utility Skill: Stay
This is where our next ability comes in: Sojourn. This ability doesn’t have a “normal” duration. Instead, it starts counting down your health after three seconds of flight. To cancel your flight, either activate it again or collide with something. Seeker will then explode, dealing damage and stunning your enemies. Figuring out the exact flight time that suits you can be a bit of a challenge. I would avoid charging into a horde of enemies after a long Sojourn. Once your healing starts to take effect, it becomes much less of an issue, but it’s worth being cautious in the early stages.
