The notebook, Singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and playwright Bekah Brunstetter’s stage adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks romance is entering its 200th performance at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Since day one, three pairs of actors have anchored the show as different eras of destined lovers Allie and Noah: Jordan Tyson and John Cardoza as their youngest representatives, Joy Woods and Ryan Vasquez in the middle, and Maryann Plunkett and Dorian Harewood representing their present, mawkish timeline.
Emotions are running high on stage, but backstage only a company-wide game of Traitors can increase the tension. Take a look inside the cozy dressing rooms at Schoenfeld and see how the stars of The notebook have been settling into their Broadway venues for the past seven months. The nervousness of opening a brand new musical has long since faded, but as Tyson explains, performing now is about “renewing.” “We’re in a different chapter,” she says. For some, that chapter requires oracle cards, for others, naps, and for the guys upstairs, a constant supply of Notebook-Brand hot sauce.
