The world All mLanguage right about the new book, from celebrated biographer and novelist Lesley-Ann Jones, was acquired by Clare Hulton of the Clare Hulton Literary Agency from senior Editor James Hodgkinson, who is now the Companies and is now led by Editor-in-Chief Joe Hallsworth.
McVie, who died in 2022, was one of the founding members of the band Fleetwood Mac and was close friends with Jones. The publisher has described Songbird as a “masterful portrayal of life in one of the world’s most talked about bands”. This will be the first biography of Christine McVie.
Jones said: “Christine was Fleetwood Mac’s mother. And she was also their secret weapon. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham dominated the headlines, but it was Chris who wrote the most important songs. It was she who held Fleetwood Mac together from her place behind the keyboard and addressed the audience. Her light alto, Presented on her signature “Songbird“was a balm for the theatricality of the other two singers. Every live show ended with this number.
“Without them, Fleetwood Mac will end too. It was a real privilege to spend a year in her company, to uncover her story and to relive rock’n’roll through the eyes of one of our greatest artists. A first for me..”
Hallsworth said: “Christine McVie was responsible for almost half the songs on “Rumors”—one of the most successful albums in history – and is too often overlooked when it comes to our greatest musical talents. But Songbird is more than just a corrective to this: it traces a life that will be moving and relatable to anyone who has experienced love, loss and pain. It moved me and could not be prouder to publish it.”
Songbird appears in Hardcover book, E-Book and audio in November 2024.
