NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — Lions, tigers and bears – oh my! From the tiniest insects to the largest mammals, visitors will be thrilled to see artistic depictions of animals of all sizes at the Wickford Art Association’s upcoming open and juried exhibition.
Linda Impagliazzo, executive director of the Wickford Art Association, said the exhibition, “Creatures Great and Small,” showcased the “incredible diversity” of the animal kingdom, showcasing both common and exotic species.
“Visitors will be treated to a variety of artistic interpretations that capture the beauty, complexity and unique characteristics of these creatures,” said Impagliazzo. “It is an opportunity to appreciate the great diversity of life forms that share our planet and see them through the eyes of talented artists.”
The open, juried all-media exhibition opened last week and runs until Sunday, September 1st.
“I am very excited to see how the artists will capture and interpret the theme of ‘Creatures Great and Small,'” said Impagliazzo. “It will be fascinating to observe the variety of perspectives and techniques they will use to depict the enormous diversity of the animal kingdom.”
Both non-members and members of the Wickford Art Association were encouraged to participate, Impagliazzo said, with up to three works per artist allowed.
In total, 45 pieces from a variety of art mediums were carefully selected for the exhibition by juror Katherine Lovell. (According to Lovell’s website, she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and works as a decorative painter and teacher. She also has extensive teaching and scenic painting/design experience.)
“(Lovell) selected the artworks through a fair and anonymous process, ensuring a balanced and unbiased exhibition,” Impagliazzo said.
