Lisa: Today is an exciting day because I rented this Kona ice cream truck and am hosting not one but two neighborhood parties to welcome my customers to Piedmont.

From a Piedmont native, Emmy award-winning television journalist turned matchmaker, part-time radio host, UCLA graduate, wife and mother of three.

Our first stop was on Fairview Avenue to welcome my clients, the Bowman family. Denise Fullerton, a former Berkeley High School teacher and now owner of this Kona Ice Cream Truck provided a fun and festive party.

Denise Fullerton: It’s shaved ice. We have three sizes of tubs and you get your ice cream. Then you have the opportunity to make your own ice cream at the Flavor Wave.

Lisa: The company has given back over $200 million to the community.

Denise Fullerton: I knew I wanted to retire but wanted to continue working in the community and schools and this was a good opportunity to do that.

Lisa: Long-time neighbors and friends of the previous owners of the house came with the truck, and new friendships were made over delicious ice cream.

Our next stop was on Ricardo Avenue. This street was really welcoming for my clients, the Torosean family. Some of the neighbors I met have lived here since the 1970s, while others moved in recently and this was the first time they met their neighbors.

When my clients move to Piedmont, I always tell them how great the Piedmont Police Department They respond to every call and always show up to my Welcome to Piedmont parties.

Officer Tyler Petit: What makes Piedmont so special is the people who work here. Everyone I work with is passionate about serving the community and it’s really nice to be part of that family. Having a community that supports us and creates that kind of family is what makes it so special.

Lisa: A long-time neighbor told me that this party was a first on Ricardo Avenue. They enjoyed it so much that many neighbors stayed to chat long after the Kona Ice Truck and I had left.
