The National Development Agency (NDA) has officially started construction of the Sirt International Stadium. The state-of-the-art facility will meet the strict standards of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The project has been awarded to a leading Turkish construction company with a track record in stadium development and is scheduled for completion within an ambitious timeframe of 180 days.
A senior NDA official stressed the wider significance of the project for the region: “This stadium is more than just a sports stadium; it is a symbol of Sirt’s resurrection and reconstruction. Thanks to the efforts of the Libyan National Army High Command, the city has been liberated from militias and extremists. This project represents a new chapter in Sirt’s history, a chapter of progress and unity through sport.”
The stadium’s design incorporates cutting-edge features to ensure compliance with international standards, including advanced pitch technology, state-of-the-art spectator facilities and robust security measures. Once completed, the stadium is expected to host major domestic and international football events, potentially boosting local tourism and economic growth.
This project is part of a wider initiative by the NDA to revolutionise the country’s sporting landscape. Sources within the agency reveal plans to launch several more stadium projects in different regions in the coming weeks, indicating a comprehensive approach to developing sports infrastructure.
With construction underway, all eyes are on Sirt as this ambitious project takes shape. The successful completion of the Sirt International Stadium could set a new benchmark for the development of sports facilities in the region and pave the way for hosting prestigious international tournaments in the future.
