Kate Middleton and Prince William will celebrate Princess Charlotte’s ninth birthday on May 2, but fans are eagerly awaiting the annual birthday photo the family usually releases.
However, it seems the Prince and Princess of Wales are breaking tradition this year, as they did last week for Prince Louis’ sixth birthday. Traditionally, the couple posts pictures of their children’s birthdays under embargo the day before, but for Louis’ birthday, a new picture was posted on social media on his actual birthday.
No new picture of Charlotte has been released so far, suggesting the couple may not be following their usual tradition. It’s possible that a new picture of Charlotte will be posted on social media later today, on her actual birthday. The change in procedure is believed to be due to the unprecedented times the family is going through.
William and Kate asked for privacy after the princess announced her cancer diagnosis, but they posted a picture of Louis last week to thank the well-wishers. Like her brothers, Charlotte is growing up largely out of the public eye.
She was last seen on an official outing on Christmas Day, when the royal family made their traditional festive appearance at King Charles’ Sandringham Estate to attend church, reports the Mirror. She was photographed accepting gifts from well-wishers alongside Zara and Mike Tindall’s eldest daughter Mia.
In December, she attended the annual Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey, hosted by her mother Kate, alongside George and Louis. And a few weeks before the festive event, her mother took the trio to volunteer at the Baby Bank in Holyport, near Maidenhead, where they got stuck rummaging through donated goods.
Since then, the last few months have been an eventful time for the Wales family. The couple took the time to sensitively share Kate’s cancer diagnosis with their children, including 10-year-old Prince George, and give them time to process the information.
Charlotte goes to Lambrook School in Berkshire with her brothers. There will probably be a family birthday party after the little one’s school day.
The princess is the middle child of William and Kate and third in line to the throne. She was born on 2 May 2015 in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, weighing 3.6 kilograms.
She was christened Charlotte Elizabeth Diana at St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Sandringham in front of family and friends. At the tender age of three, she made history when her younger brother Louis was born. Thanks to a change in birthright rules, she was spared from being overtaken by him in the line of succession.
Previously, men had priority over women. With Louis’ birth in 2018, these changes came into force for the first time.
