Airline uses Pokémon to explain safety on board
The new Pokemon The airplane safety video is adorable, introducing passengers to the plane’s safety features and requirements in both Japanese and English. The video incorporates individual Pokémon into almost every step it introduces. For example, Jigglypuff warns a passenger not to smoke on the plane, Machamp shows how to properly fasten and remove a seatbelt, and Farfetch’d shows how to properly stow things in the overhead bins so no one gets hurt by falling luggage when it reopens.
Pokémon are even incorporated into airplane evacuation instructions. Pokémon pile up as a person foolishly tries to take photos after an emergency landing, and Floragato demonstrates how to properly descend the inflated evacuation slide to avoid injury or damage. Pikachu is present, of course, along with Pichu, who is offered a toddler-sized life jacket during the same demonstration. Psyduck is one of the last Pokémon to be shown, with the airline showing, with its iconic headache and tormented personality, that passengers can easily get help if they have a problem or need to ask a question.
This special use of Pokemon is cute and clever and will probably help fans of the series to focus on the video while it shows what to do. However, ANA Airways is not the only airline that Pokemon these days. Singapore Airlines, AirDo and China Airlines have all introduced Pokemon in some form over the years. It just shows how far-reaching and enduring the popularity of Pokemon even goes so far that it can persuade potential customers to choose a particular airline over another because of its connection to the Nintendo series.
