WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Wisconsin’s oldest blues festival returns to Wausau this weekend for a once in a lifetime experience.
The Big Bull Falls Blues Fest is held on Fern Island. It has been going on for over 30 years and draws people from all over the country to our area. Organizers say people come from as far away as New York. There will be about nine music groups in total performing on Friday and Saturday. There will also be seven different food vendors on site, so there will be something for everyone.
“We have everything from barbecue to cheese curds and everything in between. I think we have a snow cone vendor as well. So there’s a lot of different things out there,” said Alissandra Aderholdt, executive director of Wausau Events.
The plan is for there to be no impact on Fern Island due to the expected weather. They have set up plenty of tents to keep everyone as dry as possible. Promoters say the headliners are used to the weather affecting their various festivals and gigs. They work with the agents and bands to make sure the band can play well in rainy weather. Promoters have outlined some ways you can stay comfortable this weekend if it rains.
“We recommend that people bring rain ponchos. Umbrellas are welcome this year just because of the weather forecast. I would also recommend tennis shoes or, if you really want to sit outside, rubber boots,” Aderholdt said.
If severe weather is possible, check the Wausau Events Facebook page to stay up to date on any cancellations or changes. We’ll also notify you here on NewsChannel 7 and all of our platforms. Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday. Tickets for both nights start at $60.
On Friday night you can hear artists such as Howard Luedtke, Reverend Raven and Lamont Cranston. Click here for a list of Saturday’s artists and more information.
