One woman’s “Tumblr 2014” party, which included all of her friends wearing outfits inspired by the year’s biggest trends, had viewers online in fits of laughter.
The woman, known online as @timi_post, captured the nostalgic event and shared it on TikTok, where it took the internet by storm, garnering more than 2.3 million views since its July 1 posting.
The hilarious and apt tribute to the legendary Tumblr era, with references to the distinctive styles, memes, and pop culture hits that defined the early 2010s, generated plenty of laughter and joy.
Viewers can see the creator’s carefully decorated home, which is adorned with posters of One Direction, Lana Del Rey, Lorde and Marina and The Diamonds before the party. On her shelves are Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran’s albums from 2017, as well as John Green’s novel Fate is a lousy traitora book that not only topped the bestseller lists, but was also adapted into a successful film in 2014 starring Shailene Woodley.

The wonderful journey through time continues as the camera pans on to capture the creator’s friends, all dressed head to toe in outfits reflecting the diverse fashion trends of the Tumblr era. Some participants showcase the neo-grunge style that was popular on Tumblr, complete with band t-shirts, flannel shirts, and Doc Martens. Others opt for bold hues, neon colors, and prints, accented by snapbacks, creating a vibrant contrast.
Accessories like iPods with wired headphones and floral crowns highlight the group’s attention to detail, as do the friends’ playful poses and dance moves, which are reminiscent of the viral hipster photos and dance crazes that dominated Tumblr feeds during the platform’s heyday.
TikTok users react
Even though TikTok is a younger platform than Tumblr, the video sent users into hysterics. Some took to the comments section to express their appreciation for the precision with which the party recreated the Tumblr aesthetic of the early 2010s, while others mentioned how much the playful walk down memory lane made them reminisce.
“The party is worth inaugurating,” said one user, @chloroformcologne.
Another, @ivyrenee93, added: “Okay but I miss Tumblr in 2014 (so much). Nothing could ever compare to the vibe back then.”
“Spot on, but I’m afraid there’s not enough glitter,” shared a third user, @butterflycrime_scene.
Another, @cristinampompilio, added: “You forgot the iconic olive green army jacket.”
“The kids might think this is exaggerated but this is literally what we were wearing,” said another, @joon.namu.
