Whether you’ve dreamed of publishing a longer carousel post on Instagram — be it photos and videos of your dog, sharing your latest epic travel adventure, or maybe just a monthly dump — the social media giant’s latest feature update brings your dream a step closer.
Instagram, which is owned by Meta, announced today that the feed, carousel posts, can now be up to 20 photos or videos long. That’s practically double the previous limit of 10, and while you might not use it daily, it’s handy to be able to share more if you want to.
Not only does this type of gallery post have a nice effect that lets you quickly scroll through using the dots below the photo, but it’s also a great way to share more content of a similar nature in just one post. Monthly dumps — with the captions “July in Review” or “August So Far” — have become quite popular on the platform, and it’s likely that those who post monthly dumps will have more of them.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t a number you have to reach. You can create and publish a carousel post with 1 to 20 photos, videos, or both media types. The new limit is closer to TikTok’s limit of 35, which could be seen as Instagram’s attempt to increase engagement compared to the app known primarily for vertical videos.
This latest change is now rolling out to all Instagram users globally and may already be an option for you when trying to publish posts. Instagram also seems to be on a roll with updates and announcements, as in late July it introduced “AI Studio” to help larger users on the platform interact with followers.
