Since its release on September 20, 2004, Green Day’s seventh album, American Idiothas sold an incredible 23 million copies worldwide. And to celebrate the album’s upcoming 20th anniversary, the Californian punk trio announce the release of a limited edition super deluxe box set on October 25, featuring album demos, rarities, live recordings, B-sides and not one but two documentaries on an album that is often cited as their boldest and best artistic statement.
The new editions contain 15 previously unpublished American Idiot Demos, a 15-track live performance from 2004 recorded on September 21, 2004 at New York’s Irving Plaza, nine previously unreleased live recordings, and 14 songs originally released as B-sides and bonus tracks.
In addition, two Blu-ray discs contain a 110-minute documentary entitled 20 years of American Idiot, and the previously published Heart like a hand grenade Documentary that documents the filming on the set of the blockbuster.
In addition, fans can relive some classic BBC live performances, including appearances on Top Of The Pops and songs recorded exclusively for Later… with Jools Holland.
To further entice their fan base, the band has released three songs from the box, a previously unreleased demo for Vacation/Boulevard of broken dreams, B-side Favorite son and a teaser for the CD ‘Live From Irving Plaza’ in the form of warning-Era Single Minority.

The box sets are available for pre-order now, as is a limited edition color vinyl edition of the original 2LP version of the epic rock opera.

They were brave, rebellious and stressed by the state of the country at the time. American Idiot was created in response to the daily bombardment of the media spreading it far and wide, desensitizing and tiring us – full of themes that are still relevant today, 20 years later.”
