HARRODS has put a damper on the hot weather – and prepared for Christmas.
The luxury store began putting up trees and decorations four months early to celebrate the holidays.
As customers come in from the scorching sun, they are greeted in the hallway by a white stag ornament – available for £1,800.
A tree costs wealthy customers £3,000, while the ornaments cost £29 each in the chic store in Knightsbridge, west London.
Discount store Home Bargains began selling Christmas items two months ago as the UK was hit by rain.
At that time it was said: “There will be no summer this year.”
However, during the July heatwave, a garden centre in Basildon, Essex, put up Christmas trees and decorations.
Charlotte Harrington, manager at Summerhill’s in Basildon, Essex, said: “For many, many years we have opened our Christmas department on August Bank Holiday.
“Inventory is arriving early and we are starting to bring it into the store little by little. This is just a small fraction of what we have.”
“But our Christmas decorations are so spectacular that it takes some time to set everything up. That’s why we have to start early.
“It may seem a little strange to put them outside now – especially in this hot weather.
“But we have to plan so far in advance.”
