Five years after its highly successful release Toy Story 4The emotional ending is still in my mind, but the recent news about Toy Story 5 makes me believe that the ending of the previous film will come to nothing. The fourth film in the Toy history The series grossed over $1 billion at the box office, making it one of the highest-grossing Pixar films of all time. The film’s financial triumph is one thing, but I think the emotional end to the saga was actually quite fitting. Unfortunately, the upcoming sequel seems to want to take the series back on itself.
The Toy Story 5 Among the revelations at D23 was the confirmation of Andrew Stanton as writer and director. Stanton did not direct the 2019 film. Toy history effort, but he helped write the script. The longtime Pixar employee has been heavily involved in the studio’s projects, including directing WALL E and 2016 Finding Dory. While I believe that Toy Story 5 will be a pleasant rideI can’t shake the feeling that part of the premise is something of a Woody retcon.

I remember the heartfelt farewell of Woody and Buzz Lightyear, which felt like it was the last time the legendary duo ever interacted with each other. Strangely, the first published picture of Toy Story 5 Woody is back with the others. For me, this undermines Toy history 4’s final scene – and what I firmly believe is the last part of the Toy history franchise at the time.

I have always seen Toy Story 4 as an epilogue for Woody, who is trying to cope with the loss of Andy – even though he has a new owner in Bonnie. I was nervous when the film was announced because it was so perfect Toy Story 3The end was. Fortunately, I was convinced of the project after the release. I don’t think Toy Story 4The end of does not undo the conclusion of the previous part, but rather extends it. Toy Story 5 seems to be stepping on his predecessor’s toes by bringing Woody back into the fold.

The Toy Story 5 The teaser image may not be quite what it seems. At first glance, it looks like Woody is fully reunited with his old friends for the upcoming sequel. Most likely, that is Stanton’s plan. On the other hand, there are alternatives. The released image may not be a screenshot at all and not even really representative of what will happen in Toy Story 5. It could be purely for promotional purposes to support the announcement of the premise that Bonnie is distracted from her toy by a tablet.

Alternatively, Woody’s reunion may not last. Since they weren’t allowed to play with them because of Bonnie’s new device, the toys may have turned to Woody for help in the hopes that their friend and former leader can help them carry out a plan that will result in them being chosen over the tablet again. If so, this opens the door for Woody to leave again at the end of the film, or even decide to stay again entirely. Since there’s little context in the image, there’s no way to know until more information is released.

I am very torn Toy Story 4The ending is undermined by the continuation of the story. It felt like a perfect conclusion to the story. Unfortunately, I don’t think another movie would work if the characters were in the same situation as when we last saw them. The friendship between Buzz and Woody has always been at the heart of the sagaand I just don’t like the idea of them having separate adventures for an entire movie.

Therefore, I believe the only real solution is to bring them back together. So while I don’t like the fact that Andrew Stanton is essentially undoing his own ending from the previous film, it is a necessity if another film is to be produced. If Toy Story 4The end of is respected too much, Toy Story 5 would stand out like a sore thumb among the other parts of the series, and I want it to work.
