Two new flights to the Caribbean will depart from Milwaukee in winter, early next year

Sun Country Airlines will begin seasonal flights from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport to the Dominican Republic and Jamaica this winter.

The nonstop flights between Milwaukee and the Caribbean destinations will be to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Montego Bay in Jamaica and will be offered during the winter schedule, which runs from mid-December 2024 to early April 2025.

Flights to Punta Cana will begin on December 26 and last until April 7. Initially, flights will operate twice a week, and from January 23, the number will be increased to four times a week, according to the press release.

Flights to Montego Bay will begin on January 25th and will operate twice weekly until April 5th.

“Jamaica and the Dominican Republic are popular winter destinations for Milwaukee travelers, and we are pleased that Sun Country is offering additional affordable flight options to these family-friendly, warm-weather destinations,” said Brian Dranzik, airport director, in a press release announcing the flights.

Sun Country also expands its other seasonal flights during the winter season.

During winter and spring break, there is a daily flight to Cancun, Mexico. On peak travel days, there are also nonstop flights to Fort Myers, Florida, Orlando and Phoenix.

The airline also offers nonstop flights from Milwaukee to Las Vegas and Minneapolis-St. Paul.

“We are excited to offer more winter flights to Milwaukee,” said Grant Whitney, senior vice president and chief revenue officer of Sun Country Airlines, in the press release. “Travelers to Milwaukee will love Punta Cana and Montego Bay, in addition to the resumption of flights to Cancun. Sun Country will offer eight destinations in total and will have the most international flights from Milwaukee.”

Bookings for the new destinations can be made on the Sun Country website.

Due to an increased risk, a Level 3 travel warning from the US State Department has been in effect for Jamaica since January 23.

Sun Country’s announcement follows the opening of two other new flights in Milwaukee this month. On Thursday, Frontier Airlines began offering nonstop flights to Philadelphia and Raleigh-Durham.

On May 1, Spirit Airlines announced that it would now offer seasonal flights to Dallas.
