Green Bay Packers ridiculously name a possible transfer target for Dallas Cowboys star

Green Bay Packers ridiculously name a possible transfer target for Dallas Cowboys star

The Green Bay Packers just picked up their first win of the 2024 NFL preseason after defeating the Cleveland Browns 23-10 on Saturday afternoon. The win highlighted many things that fans can be excited about regarding the roster, including their deep talent at the wide receiver position.

Second-year wide receiver Grant DuBose was the team’s top pass receiver, catching five balls for 66 yards. As fans may recall, DuBose was a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft but did not play last season because he was injured in training camp. Once healthy, he was placed on Green Bay’s practice squad.

DuBose’s emergence only exacerbates the positive dilemma Brian Gutekunst faces as he weighs his options for the 53-man roster: How many wide receivers should the Packers use and who should they be?

DuBose’s performance against the Browns reminded everyone that the Packers have a lot of talent at the wide receiver position. As mentioned, DeBose was selected in the seventh round last year. He was also the third wide receiver selected by Green Bay in that draft.

In addition to DuBose, the Packers drafted Jayden Reed (second round) and Dontayvion Wicks (fifth round). Reed set the Packers’ franchise record for most pass catches by a rookie while leading or tying in each of the three major pass-catching categories last season. Wicks has also been compared to Davante Adams after his solid rookie season.

Malik Heath was signed as a free agent after the 2023 NFL Draft and eventually made the roster.

Ahead of 2023, the Packers drafted Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Samori Toure in 2022. They also signed Bo Melton, a seventh-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks this year, to their practice squad. Melton had the first 100-yard receiving game for the Packers last season.

Of all the players listed above, only Touré is considered unable to compete for a place in the 53-man squad.

NFL analyst suggests Green Bay Packers trade Christian Watson and draft picks to Dallas Cowboys in exchange for CeeDee Lamb

Green Bay defeated Dallas 48-32.

Given all the talent at the wide receiver position on Green Bay’s roster, it’s ridiculous to think they’re in the market to upgrade the position. Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report suggests that the Packers as a team should consider signing wide receiver CeeDee Lamb from the Dallas Cowboys as his contract negotiations drag on:

Cowboys receive: 2025 first-round pick, 2025 third-round pick Christian Watson

Packers receive: CeeDee Lamb

Moton argues that the Packers could trade Watson because of his injury history and that Lamb could step in as the team’s number one wide receiver.

However, there are several problems with this trade idea. The first has to do with what was discussed above: The Packers have a ton of talent at the wide receiver position. Any of their top four pass receivers could be a number one or two wide receiver on any given NFL team.

The most obvious problem, however, is money. All of the Green Bay Packers’ wide receivers are still on rookie contracts. Lamb wants to become the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, which would mean the Packers would have to pay him $35 million or more per year.

That’s not going to happen, frankly. This is the team that didn’t even offer Davante Adams $30+ million per season until after he had asked for a trade and decided he didn’t want to play for Green Bay anymore. If they weren’t going to pay Adams, they certainly weren’t going to pay Lamb.
