Chelsea Green’s time in WWE was marred by underappreciation, but her work in the ring was recognized by legends. One WWE Hall of Famer made the most of her limited TV time, praising her by saying, “Nobody does more with less.”
But before signing with WWE, Green had a chance to try out reality TV. On Tuesday’s “Gabby AF” podcast, Green revealed that she “was approached by the producers of ‘The Bachelor.’ It was about a week before I met Matt (Cardona).”
And then I met Matt and said no.” Timing is everything here, as Cardona’s introduction into Green’s life came right when she could have been looking into joining another reality show. Their meeting wasn’t exactly left to fate, although Brandi Rhodes and Cody Rhodes played matchmakers for them.
Green confirmed this, saying, “Of course I Googled him… I knew all about his family and friends. But yes, we went on a blind date nine years ago.” That blind date led to a relationship that was able to withstand the many hurdles of wrestling.
WWE trip together
Green joined WWE in 2018 when she secured a spot in WWE NXT after numerous tryouts. However, their relationship hit rocky ground last year when Cardona was released from WWE and the two had conflicting schedules to work through.
Green was not spared from these tensions either, and bluntly explained: “When they say (marriage) is work, it is. Sometimes I can’t stand him. Sometimes he’s in the car, in the passenger seat, tweeting about me, and I don’t notice until I get to the gym and I’m sitting on the treadmill.”
And yet the two continue to make progress together: While Green does her thing on “WWE SmackDown,” Cardona, affectionately called “Indie God” by fans, is currently recovering from a torn pectoral muscle he sustained in April.
Despite all this, their relationship remains a testament to their love for each other and their love for their careers.
