At the age of 17, John Stamos was close to becoming a member of the Church of Scientology, but his personality stood in the way.

In a recent episode of the podcast “Friends in High Places,” Stamos admitted that a “hot girl” and John Travolta were the reasons he wanted to join the church in the first place.

“I was in an acting class and there was a hot girl who said to me, ‘You know, we’re all meeting here on Hollywood Boulevard, you should come after class,'” Stamos said.

“I was working at my dad’s restaurant at the time and I said, ‘Dad, I have to go.’ So I went and it was the Scientology building,” he continued.

Stamos said he first developed a crush on Travolta after watching “Grease.”

“I was fooling around so much that they said, ‘Go out and leave.’ They just kicked me out.”

“When I saw ‘Grease,’ I thought, ‘That’s who I want to be,'” Stamos said. “I wanted to be John Travolta, I still want to be. Well, apart from whatever else they do.”

Travolta has been a member of the Church of Scientology since 1975.

When Stamos arrived at the Scientology building, he was introduced to the Church’s “E-Meter.” According to its website, it is “a calibrated device for measuring extremely low voltages and Psyche, the human soul, spirit or intellect.”

The “Full House” star immediately started playing around with the device and even pretended to use it as a phone.

“I did a ‘Peabody and Sherman’ imitation and they didn’t like it,” Stamos admitted. “Then I was joking around so much that they said, ‘Get out and leave.’ They just kicked me out.”

Podcast host Matt Friend chimed in on the conversation, saying Stamos was “too annoying” to be a member of the church, and he agreed.

“I’m walking to my car and Mia runs out and hands me my workbooks,” Stamos wrote, according to US Weekly. “‘Hey, you forgot these.’ She puts another book, the size of a brick, on top of my pile. ‘Start with this one,’ she says, smiling. ‘I think it’s going to open your eyes to some amazing things.'”

Although Stamos was fascinated by the church for a while, he quickly realized that it was “damn creepy.”

“(A man) starts questioning me about my crimes, asking if I have negative thoughts about Scientology or (founder) L. Ron Hubbard, and probing weird questions about sex,” Stamos said. “The Wayback Machine needle jumps to the corner, and Mia looks disappointed. Apparently I’m not Scientology material. Damn it.”
