Based on a true story has set its return date. The second season with eight episodes will be released on Peacock in November. The streaming service announced the premiere date with the release of a preview and several first photos.

The series stars Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Tom Bateman, Priscilla Quintana, Liana Liberato, Natalia Dyer, Alex Alomar Akpobome, Aisha Alfa and Annabelle Dexter-Jones. It is about a couple who want to exploit people’s fascination with true crime for a podcast.

Peacock revealed more about the Based on a true story Return in a press release.

“In season two, new parents Ava and Nathan Bartlett are three months old. Focused on her family, Ava is determined to resist her obsession with true crime and return to work as a real estate agent while Nathan coaches private tennis clients. But a series of new murders draws her back – is Matt behind the murders? Is Tory, now embroiled in a relationship with Matt, in danger? For a while, life is good – Ava’s TikTok habit and her new boyfriend Drew provide a welcome distraction and Nathan is fully committed to reviving his tennis career and his friendship with Matt – until danger literally knocks on the door.”

Showrunner Annie Weisman made the following statement about the series:

“I first discovered Based on a True Story as a fan of Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina and was immediately drawn to the show’s stirring mix of dark humor, high-octane action and likable characters. In Season 2, we’ve expanded on these compelling themes while introducing compelling new character dynamics and an evolving crime mystery.

Season 2 begins with Ava and Nathan trying to balance their parenting roles with their obsession with true crime. Kaley and Chris deliver exceptional performances, bringing depth, authenticity and comedic chemistry to every moment. Tom Bateman’s portrayal of Matt effortlessly switches between charming and creepy, while Liana Liberato embodies Tory’s feisty free spirit. And we’re excited to welcome Melissa Fumero to the series in a surprising new role. The entire cast does an excellent job of balancing humor and heart, creating a deeply funny, unpredictable and engaging viewing experience.

I can’t wait for you to join us on this wild ride. Murder Bunnies, assemble!”
