WILMINGTON, DE – August 28, 2024 — Buccini Pollin Group (BPG), a prominent Wilmington-based real estate developer, today reached a major milestone with the topping out of its newest residential development, The Press. The 14-story, 243-unit apartment building at 801 N. Orange Street is on schedule for completion by summer 2025.

In a ceremony that has become a symbol of progress in the construction industry, the final structural beam was hoisted onto the building’s roof, adorned with an American flag and an evergreen tree – a nod to a long-standing tradition. Local dignitaries, including Mayor Mike Purzycki and BPG executives, gathered alongside project partners and neighbors, all of whom were invited to sign the beam before it was hoisted. The occasion underscores the community effort that went into making this ambitious project a reality.

The Press, designed by renowned architectural firm Perkins Eastman, is a $90 million investment in the heart of Wilmington. The complex is spread over 1.15 acres and will offer a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, including duplexes. The high-rise tower, with its sleek glass and metal facade, will feature amenities such as an indoor lounge, a social dining area and a rooftop deck with panoramic views of downtown Wilmington. The tower will be complemented by a four-story residential building on 8th Street that will include three-bedroom duplexes and additional apartments.

The site design thoughtfully integrates various communal spaces, including a private outdoor area with a pool, dog run and grilling stations. A porte-cochère provides a grand entrance to the residential lobby, while a small park open to the public will enhance the site’s appeal with seating and landscaping.

The publishing name pays homage to the site’s history as the former headquarters of the News Journal, which vacated the site in 1989. The project aims to breathe new life into this once bustling urban space, which will now provide a home for more than 350 residents. Located just two blocks from Market Street, the building offers easy access to local businesses, the Wilmington train station and other neighborhood attractions.

BPG’s latest project is a continuation of their efforts to revitalize Wilmington’s residential landscape. The company has previously introduced notable developments such as The Residences at Mid-town Park and Crosby Hill, and has added nearly 450 units to the city’s housing stock in recent years.

“Our city is experiencing unprecedented growth, with businesses and residents flocking to Wilmington,” said Mayor Mike Purzycki. “The press not only contributes to this momentum, but also recognizes the history of our downtown. I am grateful to BPG for their continued investment in our community.”

With over 2,200 housing units already brought to market in Wilmington and another 700 under development, including The Standard and Humble Park, BPG remains a driving force in the city’s economic development.

“We are incredibly proud to have reached this milestone,” said Rob Buccini, founder of the Buccini Pollin Group. “The Press is more than just a building – it is a testament to the vision we have had for Wilmington for decades. This project will not only redefine our skyline, but also enrich our community.”

BPG and BPGS Construction are overseeing the development and construction of The Press, while ResideBPG, BPG’s residential real estate subsidiary, is handling leasing and property management. The project is expected to create approximately 392 construction jobs in Wilmington.
