Man riding BMX bike on sidewalk killed by hit-and-run driver in Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South LA

No.

There is nothing suspicious here.

A man was struck and killed early Thursday morning by a hit-and-run driver who was riding his bicycle on a sidewalk in South Los Angeles.

According to Fox-11, the man was walking on the 7900 block of Alameda Street in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood just after 1 a.m. Thursday when an unknown driver on the opposite side of the street drove over the curb, traveling against the direction of traffic and striking the victim on the sidewalk.

The driver sped away after the accident, leaving the victim, whose identity was not publicly disclosed, to die at the scene.

My News LA locates the location at 7927 Alameda.

A video from Fox-11 shows the victim’s blurry body lying on the sidewalk next to his backpack and cellphone, while his BMX bike sits on the street nearby.

There is currently no description of the suspect vehicle, let alone the person behind the wheel.

However, considering that the driver struck someone on a raised sidewalk across a two-lane road, it suggests that he may have lost control at high speed or while distracted or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Or that the crash may have been intentional.

Hopefully we will find out more soon.

This is at least the 35th fatal bicycle crash in Southern California this year and the 10th that I know of in Los Angeles County.

Thirteen of those deaths in Southern California were the work of heartless cowards who didn’t even have the basic human decency to stick around afterward.

My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the victim and all his family.
