The Being Exceptional Every Day Award was created to honor hospital staff members who are not registered nurses at Warren General Hospital. The award was created by the nursing leadership to complement the DAISY Award and to honor nurses who go above and beyond every day for patients and their families.

“We are proud to recognize our outstanding healthcare workers,” said Joe Akif, chief nursing officer at Warren General Hospital. “They are everyday heroes and it is important that they know that their work is highly valued. The BEE Award gives us the opportunity to do this.” Flasher was nominated by Diane Burkey, a current PCT at Warren General Hospital.

“This girl deserves this award. Christina (aka Chrissy) goes above and beyond on every task,” Burkey said, “She has taken the time to teach other experienced staff (CNAs) their new (PCT) roles, created guides for them to follow to ensure we are well equipped for patient transfers, encourages staff when confidence is low, and builds us up (blood draws, EKGs, and all the many bureaucratic tasks). She always helps when needed to ensure staff and patients have the best outcome. I have observed how compassionate she is with her patients and their families, how she reassures them and explains each step, test, or task she does.

She is reliable – she covers shifts, she has cross-functional training, she is always there to get the job done, and she really strives to make sure the team is doing whatever it takes to provide the best care for their patients. Chrissy always treats patients, families, and staff with dignity. We are all busy and all departments have their good and bad days, but when the CCU asks her for help and she is available, she is there at a moment’s notice – making sure patient care is completed and staff have an extra hand when needed. She has no idea how valued and respected she is as a colleague. And how much she is appreciated! Thank you!”

Employees can be nominated by patients, families and colleagues. The recipient is selected by a committee at Warren General Hospital. The BEE Award is presented at ceremonies throughout the year attended by the recipient’s colleagues, patients and visitors. Each recipient receives a certificate, a BEE pin, a gift card to the hospital’s Window Box gift shop, four free lunches in the cafeteria, an eight-hour day off and a crystal called Bumble Bee Jasper found on Mount Papandayan in Indonesia.

“It is important that our employees know that their work is highly valued and the BEE programme gives us the opportunity to do this,” said Rick Allen, CEO of Warren General Hospital.
