Miami Dolphins sign young wide receiver from the waiver list

The Miami Dolphins were awarded a player from the waivers list on Wednesday, namely the suddenly very thin wide receiver spot.

The Dolphins received Grant DuBose, a first-year wide receiver who was waived by the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday.

DuBose not only provides depth, but also brings good size (6’2″, 215 pounds) to a position that was lacking in that regard. Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Braxton Berrios and Malik Washington were the four players on the 53rd position before this move.

On the other hand, the Dolphins did not have any of the players they traded on Tuesday who were claimed by another team.

DuBose was a rookie seventh-round draft pick from Charlotte last year and was on and off the Packers’ practice squad, largely because an offseason back injury forced him to play catch-up from the start.

In the Packers’ 2024 season opener, DuBose had five catches for 63 yards against the Cleveland Browns.

In his two seasons at Charlotte, DuBose had 64 and 62 catches and a total of 15 touchdown receptions.

DuBose isn’t particularly fast, but the scouting report out of Green Bay says he’s a good athlete and a willing blocker, something Mike McDaniel likes in his wide receivers and is one reason he’s a fan of River Cracraft. Editor Bill Huber of sister site Green Bay Packers On SI said DuBose is a promising player with a lot of potential who easily made the Packers’ 53-man roster but fell victim to the team’s great depth at the wide receiver position.

The Dolphins must take appropriate measures to make room for DuBose on the 53-man roster.

The Dolphins were only four wide receivers short after Cracraft was placed on the IR/Designated-to-Return list, Odell Beckham Jr. was placed on the Reserve/PUP list and Erik Ezukanma was released.
