Colorado secured its first Big 12 weekly honors in its return season to the conference.
After the CU women’s soccer team picked up home wins over Wyoming and Michigan over the weekend, goalkeeper Jordan Nytes was named Big 12 Co-Goalkeeper of the Week on Wednesday.
Nytes didn’t allow a single goal in the two victories and stopped 12 shots in 160 minutes. Nytes won the honor twice two years ago when she was a freshman at Oklahoma State. This week, she shared the honor with Baylor’s Azul Alvarez.
Nytes made four saves in Sunday’s shutout against Michigan, making him the eighth CU goalie to record at least 10 shutouts in his career. After the first two weeks of the season, Nytes ranks third in the Big 12 with a save percentage of .893.
“Jordi is off to a great start this season,” CU head coach Danny Sanchez said in a press release. “She is a captain (this year) and is embracing that added leadership role, but she was also very good as a goalkeeper, kept us in the game against North Carolina and gave everything she needed against Wyoming and Michigan. We are excited to see her progress and how she does in the future.”
CU entered the United Soccer Coaches Poll at No. 22 this week, and after a 3-1 home win to open the season, the Buffs will begin their first road trip of the season, starting Thursday at UNC Greensboro (5 p.m., ESPN+). CU will play at North Carolina State on Sunday (5 p.m. MT, ACC Network).
