After arriving at the Church, Stamos was taken to the Scientology building and introduced to a machine called the “E-Meter,” which consisted of two cans. Stamos described his experiences with the Church of Scientology in his 2023 memoirs, If you had told me.

“I’m walking to my car and Mia comes running out and hands me my workbooks,” Stamos wrote in the book. “‘Hey, you forgot these.’ She puts another book, the size of a brick, on top of my pile. ‘Start with this one,’ she says, smiling. ‘I think it’ll open your eyes to some amazing things.'”

When Stamos opened the book, he read a passage about control and “the control of your reactionary mind, the control of energy, the control of space and the control of time.”

The book sparked Stamos’ curiosity to visit the church venue, but he soon found the place “damn spooky.”

“(A man) starts questioning me about committing crimes, asking if I have negative thoughts about Scientology or (the founder). L. Ron Hubbard and asks some weird questions about sex,” Stamos wrote. “The Wayback Machine needle jumps to the corner and Mia looks disappointed. Apparently I’m not Scientology material. Damn.”

The church, meanwhile, has not commented publicly on Stamos’ allegations.
