First look at season 2 of “Based On A True Story”

If your craving for true crime comedies is not fully satisfied by Only murders in the buildingthen Peacock has just the right show for you. The second season of Based on a true storyexecutive producer and starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, returns to the streamer on November 21, a good time to fill the gap after HideSeason finale in October. Of course, the Bartletts are a little less healthy than the Only murders Trio, and in the second season they try to leave their podcast behind after becoming embroiled in chaos and murder.

According to Peacock’s synopsis, new parents Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan Bartlett (Chris Messina) have been parents for three months in the second season. Focused on her family, Ava is determined to resist her obsession with true crime and return to work as a real estate agent while Nathan coaches private tennis clients. But a series of new murders draws them back in – is Matt (Tom Bateman) behind the murders? Is Tory (Liana Liberato), now entangled in a relationship with Matt, in danger? For a while, life is good – Ava’s TikTok addiction and her new friend Drew (Melissa Fumero) provide a welcome distraction and Nathan is fully committed to reviving his tennis career and his friendship with Matt – until danger literally knocks on the door.”

In their C+ review of the first season The AV ClubSaloni Gajjar said: “There is just enough ridiculousness to keep the momentum going” on Based on a true story. The series “isn’t the next great investigation into true crime fans, or a worthy lampoon of them. It turns out it’s just a mildly entertaining show that lets Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina shine,” she writes. “And sometimes that’s all the entertaining TV adventure scene you need.” You can check out the first photos from season two below, courtesy of Peacock.
