American Airlines passenger stunned when he discovers that the same ticket is 200% more expensive online: “This should be illegal!”

American Airlines passenger stunned when he discovers that the same ticket is 200% more expensive online: “This should be illegal!”

A drummer was stunned to discover that his band members’ American Airlines tickets were selling for 200 percent more than his own.

Ryan Fox recently explained the situation in a TikTok video after trying to buy tickets for a flight to Tennessee for himself and his band members.

All musicians except Fox start their journey from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

Because Fox was flying out of San Antonio International Airport (SAT), he had to take an extra flight to meet his bandmates in DFW – but his ticket still only cost $260, while the others cost $787.

“How can their plane ticket be 200 percent more expensive? That feels illegal,” Fox said.

Dexter & The Moonrocks drummer Ryan Fox shared his confusion about airline ticket prices in a TikTok video on August 25

Fox, a member of Dexter & The Moonrocks, revealed in his August 25 video that he arranged the plane tickets for the band to meet with their label in Nashville.

His plan was to fly to DFW and meet the other musicians, and they would all take the same flight to Nashville International Airport (BNA).

Fox will also be the only band member to tour three locations, which played a role in his shock at the airfare.

Fortunately, Fox and the other band members did not have to pay for the tickets out of their own pockets.

According to the drummer, he and the other members bought the tickets with their label’s credit card.

Fox flew from SAT to DFW. He and his other band members then flew from DFW to BNA. They were all on the same flight.

The shocking airfares come months after the International Air Transport Association said in a report that 2024 would “mark the end of dramatic annual fare increases.”

However, John Grant, chief analyst at travel data company OAG, had a different opinion on this year’s airfares.

“The status quo will be maintained, with only minor fluctuations in fares,” Grant told CNBC in January 2024.

“Although there may be slight price reductions due to slowing demand in the off-season, the continued high operating costs (plus salary increases, oil prices, etc.) suggest that there will not be any major changes.”

Unfortunately, airline ticket prices continue to rise due to inflation and have even reached 8 percent this year, according to the Consumer Price Index.

Several TikTok users who saw the musician’s video have written about their own airline ticket stories, explaining what they do during the booking process.

“My friends and I did this: We bought the ticket so the price would show up, and then we took a screenshot of it and sent it to them so the airline’s price would match,” wrote one TikToker.

Another person suggested: “Try switching the VPN location and IP address between searches. Seriously, they adjust the price based on your history.”

Others claimed international flights were even worse, with one person reportedly flying from Indiana to London via Michigan for $2,500, while a flight from Detroit to London cost $5,000.

“This is because they are competing with another airline from SAT to BNA that probably flies nonstop,” one commenter claimed.

“There is no continuous competition from DFW to BNA.”

The Daily Mail has contacted American Airlines for comment.
