The project is located in Grönsta, north of Torpshammar, and will combine wind power with large-scale production of green hydrogen to produce CO2-neutral products.
OX2 is developing a wind farm in Marktjärn, Torpshammar, with a planned annual production capacity of 1.4 TWh. The green electricity generated by this wind farm will power the hydrogen production plant that Lhyfe plans to build in Torpshammar with a capacity of up to 100 tonnes of green hydrogen per day (electrolysis capacity of approximately 300 MW). Lhyfe produces green and renewable hydrogen by electrolyzing water in production plants powered by renewable energy.
“We are excited about the potential of this project, which will use electricity from the Marktjärn wind farm to power a green industrial cluster, enable sustainable local industry and increase the attractiveness for further industrial settlements in Ånge,” said Anders Nilsson, Head of Onshore Wind at OX2.
Velarion, a key partner in this initiative, would build one of the world’s first carbon-neutral fertilizer factories within this cluster. According to the project, this state-of-the-art plant would use green hydrogen to produce green ammonia, significantly reducing CO2 emissions in fertilizer production. The green ammonia will meet the growing market demand for sustainable products.
“Due to the large potential production capacity, we are in dialogue with several companies that want to refine hydrogen and its byproducts,” added Sara Wihlborg, Country Manager Sweden at Lhyfe. “These collaborations will help build a local ecosystem that contributes to the economy and job creation in the region.”
The project is currently in the conceptual design phase. The implementation of the project depends on the results of this study, the issuance of operating licenses and environmental permits, and decisions on financial investments.
