Cubs’ Dansby Swanson gave his mother an unforgettable birthday present during the game

Nancy Swanson had some pretty epic front row seats behind the Cubs dugout at the Cubs’ game against the Pirates on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh on her birthday.

Then her son presented Dansby with an extravagant gift – a 2-run home run in the 4th inning that extended the Cubs’ lead as they beat the Pirates 9-5. The Cubs won the series in Pittsburgh and are above .500 (67-66) for the first time since May 28.

And after celebrating with his teammates in the dugout, Dansby ran up the top steps of the dugout, waved to his mother and wished her a happy birthday.

A very special gift indeed.

Swanson’s long ball capped a 5-run inning for the Cubs against the Pirates. Seiya Suzuki hit a 2-run home run in that inning to tie the game. Three batters later, Nico Hoerner had an RBI double to give the Cubs the lead. That set the stage for Swanson’s 421-footer to the opposite field.

For Swanson, it is the second day in a row with a home run – in the Cubs’ 18-8 victory on Monday night, he hit an 8-run grand slam in the 6th inning.

The Cubs were excited by Jared Jones in this inning – his second outing – hitting around him and chasing him after the inning, leaving the game to the Pirates bullpen, which had to cover 5 innings on Monday.

The Cubs followed up their 5-run 4th inning with 4 runs in the 5th. Swanson and Pete Crow-Armstrong had walks with the bases loaded and Miguel Amaya delivered a 2-run single. He had another 2-hit game and has been red hot lately.
