White Sox nominate John Brebbia for assignment

The White Sox designated hitter John Brebbia for assignment on Tuesday and recalled right-hander Prelander Berroa to take his place in the bullpen.

The Sox also sent infielder Bryan Ramos to Charlotte after one day with the team and signed Jacob Amaya to the active roster.

Amaya was claimed off waivers by the Astros on Monday.

Brebbia, 34, has an 0-6 record and a 6.29 ERA in 54 appearances this season, making him the team’s best player in his first season with the Sox after signing as a free agent on Jan. 26.

The Sox bullpen leads the majors in blown saves (31), a club-record 42 losses and walks (263). Its ERA of 5.10 is the second-worst in the majors.

Berroa, 24, is 3-5 with a 6.41 ERA in 43 relief appearances with Charlotte this season. He also pitched in three games during two stints with the White Sox in 2024, allowing three runs in two innings.

Berroa was acquired by the Mariners on February 3, along with outfielder Zach DeLoach and a Competitive Balance B selection (LHP Blake Larson) in the 2024 draft in exchange for right-hander Gregory Santos.

The White Sox’s 40-man roster includes 39 players.

The Sox made a total of five changes to their roster on Monday.

“It could happen right now,” said interim manager Grady Sizemore.

The lawsuit alleges that employees working at the stadium were not adequately trained and that the security services they provided were inadequate to protect visitors.

Cannon did not make it past the fifth inning, allowing eight hits and five earned runs with four strikeouts and four walks.
