Green Bay Packers place running back AJ Dillon on injured list and end 2024 season

Green Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon will not take the field in 2024 because his season was ended by injury before it could officially begin, as the Packers placed him on the injured list on Tuesday. The roster move came in conjunction with cuts to assemble the initial 53-man roster.

Dillon apparently suffered a stinger, the second time in less than a year. A stinger is essentially a nerve injury that causes numbness in the extremities following local trauma to a part of the body. They are quite common in football. Repeated stingers can cause long-term problems.

It’s unclear when Dillon’s latest injury occurred, but he was ruled out of Green Bay’s final preseason game against the Denver Broncos before being shelved for the 2024 season.

Dillon entered free agency this offseason after being drafted by the Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft. Boston College. Since there is no large market, he came back to Green Bay with a four-year qualifying offer, which basically means the team can continue after this season – especially with the low salary.

Dillon played in 60 career games, carrying the ball 597 times for 2,428 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was primarily Green Bay’s second running back and, at 6’1″ and 250 pounds, was a powerful option in the power running game.

And with Dillon out of the running, there will be even more work to do in signing free agents. Josh Jacobs and rookie MarShawn Lloyd.
