“Don’t Touch that Radio Dial,” a new book by Steve Hayes, is published by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

Before the internet, smartphones, or cable TV, there was a single social media force more powerful than Facebook, Instagram, Tik-Tok, and all the others combined. This portal to humanity was run by real people in real time to inform, engage, and entertain all of humanity, and it only cost a small one-time fee to own this tantalizing device. The accounts and descriptions of how it worked and the personal journey one could experience while using it captivated followers, turning them into an invisible, mythical prodigy and a creation most couldn’t imagine life without.

That once unstoppable influence still exists today, but it has become just another choice among the hundreds of options available to us for entertainment.

Don’t Touch that Radio Dial is the love story of one person who was part of a very small inner circle of artists who helped create the legacy of the world’s first social platform. When the curtain is pulled back, be aware of the consequences, because we ask you: Please do not touch the radio dial.
