Fantasy Football: Green light, red light, yellow light for these WRs for 2024?

Every league is different, but when I walk into most of my draft rooms, I think about receivers. My preferred roster construction is the hero RB shape, where you get a back you trust in the first few rounds, but otherwise fill the fridge with other stuff.

For me, that other “stuff” is usually the wideout position. I want receivers that start themselves; I don’t want to play whack-a-mole and try to guess which borderline WR4 is having a big week. Let’s try to build the best receiver room in the league.

With that in mind, it’s time for a game of Green Light, Yellow Light, Red Light for the recipients. 🚥

  • Green light = WRs I’m confident about drafting. Proactive picks around market cost (maybe even slightly above).

  • Yellow light = I could take WRs at cost or at a discount, but I won’t put any special effort into choosing.

  • Red light = I avoid WRs. It’s often about the price, not the player.

Don’t agree? I’m all ears.

👍 Green light WRs

Amon-Ra St. Brown: One of the safest first-round picks, a target monster tied to the same delicious setup as last year.

Amary Cooper: One of those boring but reliable veteran picks and the rare receiver who produces regardless of the quarterback. Look at how Cooper got by with four different quarterbacks last year.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: Not too long ago, JSN was considered the king of a crowded Ohio State receiver room. Let him ride out his rookie year through injuries and bad luck. The Seahawks are getting an OC move at the right time.

🤔 Yellow traffic light WRs

Puka Nacua: It’s not always easy to trust a player who came out of nowhere, and Nacua’s injury-plagued college history (due to a rough summer) is also a concern.

Malik Nabers: I fully expect the Giants to target Nabers from the bus. Unfortunately, Daniel Jones is providing those targets.

Diontae Johnson: Should be the main target in Carolina and Dave Canales has already done wonders. But even if QB Bryce Young improves, he likely offers limited ceiling for his teammates.

🛑 Red light WRs

Davante Adams: Heading into a dangerous age gap, his two main quarterbacks looked lost in the summer.

Steve Diggs: There’s a lot of depth to fill in Houston, and the Texans have two rising stars who are significantly younger than Diggs.

Brandon Aiyuk: It was always expected that the dreamlike efficiency would decrease in 2023. And how focused can Aiyuk be after a summer full of negotiating stress?
