Obituary: John U. Letourneau

John Urbain Letourneau of Biddeford passed away on August 24, 2024.

He was born on December 20, 1927, in Sanford, Maine, the fifth of six children of Albert and Hermine (Hamel) Letourneau. John attended Sanford schools and then earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Anselm’s College. After graduating from college, John served honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during combat operations in the Korean War. On November 9, 1957, John married Therese Larouche and they had two children and four grandchildren during their 66-year marriage.

John dedicated 35 years of service to the Federal Government, serving as Chief of the Northeast Section of the Quality Assurance Division of the Defense Logistics Agency in Boston, Massachusetts. During his life, John was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, attaining the third degree, serving as Grand Knight for several years. John was an active member of St. Andre’s Church and St. Joseph’s Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector for many years. He loved working in his yard, doing carpentry around the house, and always found the time to help his children and grandchildren when they needed him. John had a lifelong passion for baseball, playing baseball for the Sanford schools and cheering on the Boston Red Sox.

John dedicated his entire life to his family. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren unconditionally, supported them faithfully in their endeavours and was always there to offer advice and support. We will miss him very much.

John was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Hermine Letourneau as well as his siblings Paul Letourneau, Camille Edwards Stack, Claire Cadorette and Jeanne Angers.

John is survived by his beloved wife Therese Letourneau, his daughter Anne Marie Pazar and her husband Christopher, his son John Letourneau, and his grandchildren Dustin Pazar, Isabelle Pazar, Timothy Pazar and Harrison Pazar. He is also survived by his sister Anne Marie Bouthot and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 178 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. Interment arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.
