Celebrity chef, restauranteur, food critic, reality TV star and one of our favorite cat dads, Bobby Flay, recently celebrated a special milestone for one of his furriest family members.
His beautiful apricot Maine Coon cat Canelo celebrated his first birthday and if you look at his anniversary post on Instagram, this kitten is already bigger than most adult cats.

Maine Coon cats are always big and beautiful, but Canelo is just so adorable!
Flay posted in his Instagram message about the Made by Nacho Account “Happy 1st birthday to our hungriest little taste tester! Treat your cat to a lickable mousse today in honor of @caneloflay.”
Made by Nacho is Flay’s cat food brand that the chef created in honor of his Maine Coon cat named Nacho, who sadly passed away in October of last year. Nacho was loved not only by his cat dad, but also by his hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. He was such a beautiful cat.

So many of us were heartbroken when he passed away and watching Flay’s interactions with Nacho was always so special. It’s so touching to see him embrace Canelo as part of his family and you can never replace one pet with another but it’s an honor for your pet who has crossed the rainbow bridge to open your heart and home to another animal.

A funny aspect of Flay’s Instagram post is when he talks about how Maine Coons continue to grow until they are about four years old. My own Maine Coon, Meatball, is just 8 months old and weighed 15 pounds at his last vet appointment. He weighs more than my other cats who are much older than him and he’s just going to keep growing. I might have to try Made By Nacho food for him since Flay’s Maine Coons love it so much!

Catster explains that male Maine Coons weigh on average between 18 and 22 pounds when fully grown. Females are not as heavy. Female Maine Coons weigh on average between 12 and 15 pounds. Some may be heavier, but on average they tend to fall somewhere between these weights.
These amazing cats usually stop growing at around four years of age when they reach their full size. For comparison, most domestic cats stop growing at around one year of age.
I think I need to stock up on more cat food!
