JOHN 5 doesn’t know if MÖTLEY CRÜE want to release a new album: “I’m just doing it for fun”

In a new interview with Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio stations, MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist John 5 was asked if there are any plans for the group to release a new full-length album or if he and his bandmates are focusing on releasing standalone singles and EPs. He replied (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “You know what? I’m not sure. I think we’ll just put songs out. That’s what I’ve been doing personally (in my solo career) for a long time. And then what I do is I just put new songs out, new songs out, and then I take all of those songs and put them on a record and sell them at my shows or something, the whole record. But I personally really like doing it that way.

“When you release these songs individually, it’s like each song is a single, and that’s really cool,” John 5 explains. “And I think, imagine if VAN HALEN done that. You would never know “Take your whisky home” or any of these deep cuts. You think, “Oh, wow.” How ‘Too late’ or something. What if they were all singles? Because in my eyes all these songs Are Singles. I might like them better than “I’m not talking about love” or something like that. I think those deep cuts are just as good as the singles that they put out. And those bands worked so hard on those songs. And these days you just listen to the singles and stuff like that. So, I like doing it that way. So, I don’t know. I don’t know what they’re going to do. I’m just in it for fun.”

When asked whether the April 2023 recording sessions for the band’s upcoming album were “Cancelled” EP was his first collaboration with the legendary producer Bob Rock, John 5 said: “Yes, with “Dogs of War” and those other songs, that was the very first time. I’ve worked with everybody you can imagine, but that was special because you go into the studio and you think, “Okay, this is how it’s going to be. I’m going to record in the control room.” But I was completely wrong. Everyone was set up in the recording room. And that’s so ’70s – even ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and somewhere in the ’90s, everyone started recording in the control room, except the drummer, of course. But that’s how we did it. And I’m telling you, I only did that once, but it was so cool because you all Play like a band, everyone playing at the same time. And that’s how we recorded these songs. “Dogs of War” is a complete live track. These are just live tracks coming from the stage. And that’s the cool thing about it. So it was really exciting for me. I really enjoyed it. And I had my notes here and Nicky (Sixx, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist) had his notes and bob was in the middle of the floor and we just cut it like that. And it was super cool.”

The “Cancelled” EP will be released on October 4th. The three-part album contains the title track, MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s cover version of the BEASTIE BOYS classic “(You have to) fight for your right (to party!)!” And “Dogs of War”which was made available in April.
