Just ask anyone in the Midwest this week what they think about the weather, and you’ll probably get a response that says something about can’t wait for fall.
South Bend is battling a heat wave that has swept the Midwest and is expected to last at least until Wednesday morning.
Highs of 34 degrees are expected on Monday, with temperatures in South Bend expected to reach 32 degrees on Monday. “Relief” will come on Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to be just above 27 degrees.
I live in the Midwest and I can tell you that the humidity is about as high as it gets right now, and walking the dog around the block is enough to make you think about taking a shower to cool off.
Regardless, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is thankful for the late summer heat wave.
“I’m grateful to the Almighty for giving us so much heat on Monday and Tuesday,” Freeman said at his press conference on Monday.
Notre Dame, of course, travels to Southeast Texas to open its 2024 season against Texas A&M on Saturday. It seems like since this game was announced about a decade ago, the overwhelming thought has been that Notre Dame will have to play in the sweltering South Texas heat.
“It will be good for our team to double our hydration.”
It will also be nice when Notre Dame comes out of the locker room on Saturday night and finds a heat that doesn’t feel so foreign. It may not be what the team is used to even on the hottest days this summer, but by the time of the game, Notre Dame should actually be cooler than it was during practice this week.
