John Stones injury: Man City suffers another heavy blow ahead of title clash with Arsenal

Manchester City face another major injury concern ahead of their big Premier League title clash with Arsenal this weekend after John Stones was injured while playing for England.

Pep Guardiola’s defending champions host the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a high-profile match that could have a major impact on this season’s exciting three-way championship battle, which also involves Liverpool.

Having previously been almost completely healthy, City’s injury concerns are now really increasing with the upcoming visit of Arsenal.

Stones retained his starting place after the weekend’s defeat to Brazil when England faced Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday night in the final game before Gareth Southgate announces his provisional Euro 2024 squad, but lasted less than ten minutes before limping off the pitch and being replaced by Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.

Stones’ setback follows that of his City teammate Kyle Walker, who withdrew from an already depleted England squad on Sunday, devoid of the likes of Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, after limping off the pitch in the first half against Brazil.

England and City are currently without Jack Grealish and the participation of regular goalkeeper Ederson against Arsenal is also very doubtful. He will be out for up to four weeks due to a thigh injury he sustained in the thrilling 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month.

Kevin De Bruyne’s ability to play against the Gunners is also questionable, as the City captain was not included in the Belgian squad for the games against the Republic of Ireland and England due to ongoing groin problems.
