To make room for experienced wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on the roster, the Kansas City Chiefs waived quarterback Ian Book, who has been in office for four years. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media on August 26.
Kansas City signed the 26-year-old Book to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 10. Book participated in the team’s offseason program and played in the second half of each of the Chiefs’ three preseason games this summer. The two-time defending Super Bowl champions apparently only want to keep two quarterbacks on the regular season roster — that’s how many they’ve kept in recent years — Patrick Mahomes and Chris Oladokun.
If Book makes it through the waivers list and does not sign with another team’s 53-man roster, he will be an option for Kansas City’s practice squad.
