In Grand Haven, the casual Sunday gig at a record store featured a musician touted as a “fucking legend” – JD Pinkus of the punk/rock band The Butthole Surfers, who not only put on an “epic show” at Off the Record, but also signed autographs and posed for photos with fans and patrons.

In Free Soil, 87 miles north, the Forest Trail Music Festival wrapped up three days of epic Michigan music with sets from Crosscut Kings, Aaron Wright, Alex Teller and Darrell Boger — after big-name stars like Chirp, Erin Zindle & The Ragbirds and Smokin’ Dobroleles entertained crowds earlier in the weekend.

And in Kalamazoo, Waxahatchee, indie folk/rocker, “Right Back To It” brought home the opener Tre Burt at Bell’s Brewery Beer Garden on Sunday evening and delivered what photographer Derek Ketchum called “an incredible evening” with 24 songs in 90 minutes in sweltering weather.
