Gregor Kobel sees room for improvement after BVB’s victory against Eintracht Frankfurt

Gregor Kobel praises Borussia Dortmund’s performance in the Bundesliga opener against Eintracht Frankfurt, but also sees potential for improvement.

Borussia Dortmund started the Bundesliga season on Saturday with a 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. In a hard-fought game, Jamie Gittens secured the three points for BVB with a brace in the second half.

The black and yellows had more possession and created the better chances overall, Gregor Kobel hardly had to save anything. But Eintracht Frankfurt also missed a top-class goal opportunity when the score was 0-0.

Kobel was able to take a lot of positives from Borussia Dortmund’s performance on the first matchday of the Bundesliga season. However, the Swiss international also believes that there is still a lot to be done.

“We needed the first 30 minutes to get into the game. Things weren’t going well, we lost the ball too often. Towards the end of the first half, however, we became more dominant. In the second 45 minutes, we were dominant for long stretches,” said Kobel. “It wasn’t a top performance, but it was a good first performance. There were a lot of good things that we can build on, but also some that we need to work on. We need to make quicker decisions and defend better, like before we went 1-0 up, when Frankfurt had a huge chance.”

Borussia Dortmund has started the Nuri Sahin era with two wins in a row. And even though the performances are not yet at the desired level, there are many encouraging signs.

BVB will next be visiting Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion. After that, the international break begins, during which Sahin will have more time to work with his players and prepare for the upcoming tasks.
