MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The body of Bill Salnik, the sailboat driver who went missing after his vessel capsized on July 13, has been found.

According to the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, a boater reported the possible discovery of a body near Green Island around noon on Saturday.

“Upon arrival at the location, the body was located, recovered and later identified as missing boater Billy Salnik, who disappeared in July of this year. The incident remains under investigation by the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office,” the release said.

Bill Salnik, 32, and his two children went sailing on July 13. Officials said their planned route was from Green Island in the bay to a marina south of Oconto, but they never reached their destination. On July 15, the capsized sailboat “My Lady Blue” was found in Door County waters, without Salnik and the children.

Later that day, search crews recovered the bodies of five-year-old Charlotte and three-year-old Joshua about a mile south of where the sailboat was found. Both children were wearing life jackets.

For the past month, volunteers have been working non-stop to search for Bill.
