You can’t knock Floyd Mayweather‘s skills in the ring — as a boss, anyway, because while he was boxing John Gotti IIIhe dismissed the referee … and brought a fresh perspective into the game when he didn’t like a decision.
Although Saturday night’s fight in Mexico City was only an exhibition, it was a highly anticipated rematch. Fans weren’t thrilled with the action (or lack thereof) in the 2nd round… when Floyd threw what Gotti complained was a rabbit punch – an illegal blow to the back of the head.
If referee Hector Afu Mayweather was penalized for the right hook, the 47-year-old fighter got mad and started waving him away… and motioned for Afu to leave the ring. After a brief exchange of words between the boxer and the referee, Afu ran off!
It’s unclear what Floyd said, but suddenly a new referee jumped into the ring… and the fight continued. The commentators all seemed to agree that Floyd’s punch was perfectly legal.
As it turned out, Floyd’s head-to-head with the referee was the best action of the night. There were no knockdowns and no notable volleys of punches. At least the first fight between Mayweather and Gotti ended in a wild brawl when Gotti III was disqualified for holding on too much.

There was no official score for the exhibition fight on Saturday night, so fans didn’t even get the official announcement of the winner… although commentators agreed that Floyd dominated.
The fans booed all night because there was no boxing action, but at least they got to see a referee take down Jerry Maguire! 😆
