With its magnificent décor, traditional recipes and impeccable service, this restaurant offers a culinary experience as rich in history as it is in flavor.

Founded by Richa Malhan, this pan-Indian restaurant in Rajouri Garden has quickly captured the imagination of foodies and history buffs alike since its opening in July.

Raag offers a varied menu of authentic flavours and healthy cuisine from different regions of India. The restaurant serves Bengali, South Indian, Coastal and North Indian dishes but is best known for its Mughlai cuisine. The restaurant’s speciality is a pan-Indian menu with a Mughlai twist, which is reflected in its name Raag.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a breathtaking Mughal-era splendor. The interior is a meticulous recreation of Mughal-era splendor. Ornate chandeliers hang from intricately painted ceilings, while the walls are adorned with lamps and beautiful frescoes depicting scenes from Mughal history. Bold colors and luxurious decor create an atmosphere of royal comfort.

A prominent feature is the traditional sitar mounted on one wall, with Sufi music playing in the background, reminiscent of the dining atmosphere of Mughal gatherings.

The Mughlai cotton sheets hanging from the ceiling and the lattice walls of the jali further enhance the Mughal theme. The cutlery used to serve food is made of copper, while the spoons on the table reflect the grandeur of a royal lineage.

The wallpaper features intricate floral and geometric patterns in rich colors like deep red, gold and green, with designs inspired by Mughal art and architecture. Paisleys, arabesques and royal motifs evoke the grandeur of Mughal palaces and enhance the opulent atmosphere.

The service at Raag is in keeping with the decor. Dressed in attire reminiscent of the Mughal era, the staff is attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Their warmth and courtesy make guests feel like they are guests of honor in a royal court.

Once you are seated, they will give you recommendations, explain the origins of different dishes and ensure an exceptional dining experience.

The menu is a journey through Mughlai cuisine and various other cuisines, showcasing the rich flavors and culinary traditions of the Mughal era. The restaurant prides itself on using authentic recipes and quality ingredients, resulting in a varied and tempting menu.

For starters, Chenna Dahi Kabab and Paneer Sukka Tacos are a must. For mains, Baby Potatoes, Paneer Khatta Pyaz and Pinwheel Paneer Kundan Kaliyan are particularly popular. Non-vegetarian options include Murgh Handi Korma, Old School Butter Chicken and Ek Taar Ki Nihari. The rice dishes like Nizami Tarkari Biryani, Dum Murg Biryani and Gosht Murgh Biryani also reflect the Mughal culinary traditions.

These carefully prepared dishes are complemented by a diverse cocktail menu featuring local ingredients and spices. Notable cocktails include King of Limes, Spice Garden, Delhi Belly, Paloma and Espresso Martini.

No Mughal-style restaurant would be complete without decadent desserts, and Raag delivers with its highly sought-after Zauq E Shahi and Kesari Phirni desserts.

Dinesh Bisht, the head chef, notes, “Dishes like Dal Makhni, Butter Chicken and Veg Galouti Kebabs are the most popular among our guests.”

Amit Paliwal, the restaurant manager, adds: “We make sure to serve the best quality and provide a service that encourages customers to come back again and again.”
