ARTHUR “ART” F. HOEFT – The County Press

ARTHUR “ART” F. HOEFT, 67, of Lapeer, died on August 19, 2024, after a brief but sudden illness. He was born on July 17, 1957, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Ronald and Sheila Hoeft. Art was an avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a huge fan of all sports, especially baseball. He was very proud of his country and followed politics closely. In his youth, he traveled the United States on his motorcycle. He also traveled with his wife in their RV, later switching to their motor home. Arthur loved music, live concerts, blues, and playing the guitar. He also had a hobby he shared with his grandson: collecting coins.

He was proud of his 1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone, which he had completely rebuilt. He could be seen at car shows in Lapeer County with his wife and buddy Odie. Art lived life to the fullest and filled his retirement years, although they were short, with his many passions. He was always working on something, whether it was tinkering or building. Arthur’s strong spirit and personality will be greatly missed.

Art’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the McLaren Lapeer Intensive Care Unit staff who have taken such wonderful care of him and his family during this difficult time.

Art is survived by his wife Dawn Hoeft, his children Christine (Josh) Wells Garris, David Wells, Tiffany Owens, Erica Woodruff, Jamie (Robert) Kirk, his grandchildren Emily Chambers, Mariah Wheaton, Christian Owens, Jade Garris, Jacob Garris, Audrey Stetkewycz, Michael Kirk and Addilyne Wheaton, six great-grandchildren, his brothers Paul Lozier, Emmitt (Candy) Hoeft, Scott Hoeft, David (Cheryl) Hoeft, Michael (Renee) Hoeft, Bobby Hoeft, his sisters Deborah (Steven) Sitar and Marsha Hunt, his beloved dog Odie Michael, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Art was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Sheila Hoeft and his sister Tina Benson.

In accordance with Art’s wishes, cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Home – Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1-5 p.m. at the Elba Township Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer, MI.
