Tesco, Asda and Co-op give customers warnings about products that should not be consumed

Several British supermarkets have been forced to recall a number of popular food products due to safety concerns.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued several warnings in recent weeks and asked customers to return the affected products for a full refund.

Certain products are of concern because they may reach dangerous cooking temperatures, while others are being withdrawn from the market due to the risk of salmonella and cyanide contamination. Below is a detailed list of products that should be returned to stores, the Express reports.

Tesco Plant Chef 2 meat-free burgers with melting centre

  • Pack size: 240g

  • Batch code: All

Tesco has voluntarily recalled its Tesco Plant Chef 2 meatless burgers with a melting centre due to concerns that the centre could be too hot after cooking, posing a burn hazard.

The FSA advises: “If you have purchased the above product, do not consume it. Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund (no receipt required) or contact Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 555.”

Heron’s Foods Smileys Surprise Egg

Heron Foods is also removing its Smileys surprise eggs from shelves because they contain undeclared hazelnuts (tree nuts), which can be dangerous for people with nut allergies.

The NHS lists the following as symptoms of an allergic reaction:

The British National Health Service (NHS) has issued guidelines on food allergies and points out: “Symptoms may appear immediately after eating the food you are allergic to, or days later.”

For mild allergy symptoms, antihistamines may be sufficient, but for severe reactions, “emergency medications” such as an EpiPen may be necessary.

Dunnes Stores Italian Tomato Basil Sauce

Due to a labelling error, Dunnes Stores’ Italian tomato and basil sauce is warned: It contains milk and therefore poses a risk to consumers with allergies or intolerances to milk or milk components.

Al’Fez Natural Tahini

Meanwhile, several supermarkets, including Asda and Co-op, have removed Al’Fez Natural Tahini from their shelves after salmonella was detected in the product. It’s worth noting that other Al’Fez offerings are unaffected.

Typical symptoms of a salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting.

Buram Cerezli Nuts in Syrup

  • Pack size: 420g

  • Best before date: Originally April 30, 2025 and June 30, 2025, but the recall has since been updated to include all dates

There is also a safety warning for Buram Cerezli Nuts in Syrup, sold by Leo’s Import Export and Trading Ltd, due to possible foreign bodies. In addition, the FSA warns that the product contains apricot kernels, which can release hydrogen cyanide when consumed, making this product harmful to health.

The FSA strongly recommends: “If you have purchased the above product, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the shop where you bought it for a full refund. Alternatively, you can return it to Leo’s Import Export and Trading Ltd for a full refund.”
