Steuben County on Saturday listed some options for how residents suffering flood damage from Friday’s rains can get help.

Residents can call the 211 helpline at 2-1-1 and provide their address, contact information and type of damage. Those affected will be connected to the appropriate nonprofit organization that can assist them with their needs.

In addition to calling 211, residents with internet access can also complete the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Damage Self Report Tool at https://arcg.is/0ybK4H0.

Using these two resources will allow the county and its partners to more quickly assess needs while documenting damage, the Steuben County Emergency Management Agency said.

Instead of making in-kind donations, the county encourages people who wish to participate in the recovery effort to make monetary donations to the Steuben County Flood Relief Fund to support nonprofit organizations helping local flood victims.

This fund is administered by the United Way of the Southern Tier and donations can be sent to:

United Way of the Southern Tier

PO Box 284

Elmira, NY 14902

Checks are payable to “UWST Steuben County FRF.”

According to Stephen M. Hughes, president and CEO of United Way, all donations to the United Way of the Southern Tier for the Steuben County Flood Response Fund are fully invested in flood relief efforts and no funds are retained for administrative costs.

“Steuben County sincerely thanks residents and businesses for their overwhelming support,” the Emergency Management Agency said.

The Red Cross has also set up an emergency shelter for flood victims at Corning-Painted Post High School.

The emergency shelter will remain open until Monday.
